Mental Health Awareness Day with Ithemba Choir: A Day of Education, Empowering and Support.

Introduction: In a collaboration, between FGwellness Life Foundation , The Youth hub and GSH/ACE recently joined forces to host an informative and impactful event for the Ithemba Youth Choir in the heart of Cape Town on the 28 October2023. The day was dedicated to fostering awareness, education, and providing much-needed support on crucial mental health topics such as anxiety, suicide, bullying and depression.


The Day Unfolded: The atmosphere was charged eagerness to learn and with vulnerability as participants engaged in a variety of sessions covering different topics, heartfelt conversations, and a strong sense of community support. FGwellness Life Foundation , The Youth hub and GSH/ACE spared no effort in creating a safe environment that encouraged open dialogue and understanding.




Education and Awareness: The event delved into essential topics, shedding light on the complexities of anxiety, suicide, bullying and depression. Different counsellors shared insights, practical advice, and resources to empower the attendees with knowledge and tools to navigate these challenges. Felicia Goosen, our Founder at FGwellness shared a message titled 'Grass is not greener on the other side ', she shares aspects of her story related to her mentalhealth struggles as a teen, hopelessness, choosing to heal, embracing her story and allowing herself to dream and to believe her dreams. By addressing these issues head-on, the event aimed to break down stigmas and create a more informed and compassionate community.

In additio, booklet were provided with mental health information, contacts for counselling and supoort. 


Community Support in Action: One of the standout features of the day was the emphasis on community support. Attendees were given the opportunity to share their experiences and concerns, fostering a sense of unity and understanding. Peer support, facilitated by trained professionals, played a crucial role in creating a safe space for everyone involved.

Moving Forward: As the day concluded, it was evident that the impact of the event extended beyond the venue. The Ithemba Youth left with not only a wealth of information but also a network of support that will continue to be available through FGwellness Life Foundation , The Youth hub and GSH/ACE.



Conclusion: The collaboration in hosting the Ithemba Youth choir event exemplifies the positive change that can occur when organizations come together to address critical issues. By providing education, fostering conversation, and building a supportive community, this partnership is a beacon of hope for those navigating the challenges of mental health.


Felicia celebrated her birthday with everyone and we had an opportunity to sing and have cake together. What a way to end a special day. Heres wishing you a beautiful year ahead Felicia!!!
